Travel back in time

While the depressions followed one another on Cap Finisterre creating continuous strong wind from the South, we continued our discovery of Galicia. A travel to Lugo took us back to Roman times. We also completed boat projects (which never run out) and took care of personal matters (like going to the dentist).

City surrounded by Roman wall (Lugo)

The center of Lugo is surrounded by completely intact Roman walls. What was then called Lucus Augusti started as a military camp and was later fortified as a main basis for the romanisation of the region. We loved following this 2.2 km long wall which was preserved over the centuries and is now a walkway where people stroll, sit down and chat, walk their dog and jog.

There are many interesting museums accross the town that display archeological findings and help visualising the daily life during Roman times.

Stunning skies and good company

Boats come an go in the marina as A Coruna is a stepping stone for travels up and down the Atlantic coast. Planet Migo (catamaran) was one of them, coming back from the Med and on the way to Tréguier. It was so nice to see Serge again and chat with him and his crew.

On a windy day, we sanded our cockpit table. It was taking a grey color with black marks. Upon recommendation of fellow owners, we applied teak oil for future protection. Looks like new again!

While crews heading north can continue their journey in between major blows, we do not wish to motor south along the coast and will wait until we have favorable winds.

Stroll to San Anton Castle

On another day, we visited the archeology museum located in San Anton Castle. This castle, located on a little island at the extrance of the estuary was a fortress then a prison. The large shoreline redevelopment work linked the island to the mainland and made it easily accessible.
