Taking advantage of the marina’s Wi-Fi, we share this bonus from our travels in France. Right before we moved on Fabule, we visited Mont Saint-Michel with friends. Isabelle, Philippe, Sophie and Xavier who we know from Canada are currently in France and this notorious place felt like the perfect place to meet.
Building this sanctuary on a rock in the middle of a drying area is an incredible endeavor. We loved this off season visit and understand how the Abbey became a major pilgrimage site. The lookouts provide insightful perspectives at the junction of sky, sea and land.
Could we approach Mont Saint-Michel with our boat? By timing the navigation very carefully and using the lifting centerboard, it is possible but still very tricky. Because a large surface around Mont Saint-Michel dries out every 12 hours, you would target a tide with a high coefficient allowing for enough water to approach the island. In addition, local knowledge is required to avoid getting stuck in the moving sandbanks. Then, the right conditions are needed to leave again.
As for our current whereabouts, we extend our stay in Falmouth to take care of some projects and enjoy Cornwall.
