Should I stay or should I go (Zakynthos)

We spent another week in this beautiful bay in the southwest of Zakynthos. There were several practical reasons to do so, but mainly we stayed because we really liked it.

Marathonisi Island

The rock formations and the caves around Zakynthos are gorgeous. So is Marathonisi Island, easily accessible with a small boat and a popular destination.

This picture of Marathonisi beach is misleading… there are numerous swimmers, ice cream stands and boats around Silvia

We explored the waters with the dinghy, hoping to view sea turtles. At the time we actually saw them, the camera wasn’t ready.

Where are they?

There was another animal we were curious about: the peacocks whose cry we heard every day.

While taking a walk, we found them in a field of olive trees.

Sulfur Beach

On Zakynthos, underwater springs emit cold water with sulfur in some places. These waters are said to have healing powers. The most well known sites in Zakynthos for sulfur baths are Marathias and Xigia. Depending on the wind direction, it can stink.

Feeling hot, hot, hot

The sun was shining with the exception of one day with a small thunderstorm. During our stay, we got professional work done when the temperatures were cooler in the morning or in the evening. For refreshment in the afternoon, we went into the water.

One of the diving features here is to explore caves carved by the water in the magnificient cliffs. We had the opportunity to use an underwater entrance that brings you into a cave where there is access to air. We appreciated to go with the Nero Sport Diving Center that has the required local knowledge.

All good things have an end and the poop tank was full. Hence, we finally raised the anchor and continued our way north to Kefalonia.
