During this week, the wind picked up while we explored the south of Kefalonia. The Ionian islands offer many beaches, coves and bays to anchor on good holding grounds. They therefore provide the perfect setting to test our new plow anchor (Manson supreme 80 lbs) in conditions with strong NW wind (including long periods between 25 and 30 knots). Indeed, our wind turbines produced energy day and night. In conclusion, after 3 weeks spent at anchor: we love our new anchor. It sets and holds reliably. However, there is a drawback to mention: because it is heavier, it is a little more difficult to bring back on the anchor bow sprit. In our view, it is worth the effort for the peace of mind.
Take a peek at Shipwreck beach
As we traveled north to Kefalonia, we enjoyed watching the beautiful west coast of Zakynthos. This includes the famous shipwreck beach.
Secluded in Koumaria beach
For our first step in Kefalonia, we were looking for a quiet anchorage in a nice scenery, sheltered from rolls and offerering good internet access to get work done. We found this secluded anchorage at the northern end of the gulf of Argostoli.
We shared the place with goats and birds.
To-do list in Argostoli
From time to time, we need access to services and shops. In Argostoli, the main town of Kefalonia, everything is very close and accessible.
The inlet forming the natural harbour of Argostoli creates a wide anchorage space. However, it is exposed to the prevailing NW winds, which were blowing up to 30 knots. At some point, the waves built up and the anchorage became less confortable. Hence, we decided to continue our journey.
Hiding in Spartia beach
After a short sail with Genoa/Jib only, we found a nice spot with beautiful blue water near Spartia beach. On the south coast of the island, many boats were seeking shelter from the strong NW wind.
Now, let’s see how we can use this wind to sail to the next island.

Hello from Dublin!
Grosses bises!
