This week was about finding a balance between continuing the exploration of fabulous places and creating the conditions of remote part-time work. In this process, connection to internet was a key factor. Several options do not provide the reliabitily and necessary data volume. We hope that the Starlink plan will fit into our budget at some point. In parallel, we visited new places on Gozo in a nice summer atmosphere. Unfortunately, something broke with our AIS and we want to sort it out before we leave for our 3 day passage to Greece.
Cliffs and azure bays
It was the second time that we visited Gozo and Comino. We like the honey colored cliffs and clear water bays. The popular spots attract many boats at this time of the season.
Mgarr busy harbour
In order to get organised and not to worry about changes in the wind and swell, it was confortable to stay in the marina. Even if the harbour is as busy with ferries as Mgarr.
Around the harbour are many restaurants and bars. However, the actual village, called Ghajnsielem, is located up the hill and originally developped next to the fresh water spring.
Gran Castello vantage point
The most spectacular visit of the week was the Citiadel of Gozo’s main city, Ir-Rabat (Victoria). Located on a hill naturally protected by steep cliffs, the site dominates the surrounding countryside and allows visual control of the coastal areas.
Protect and rule
During the medieval period, the population came to sleep inside the walls of the Citadel due to the Ottoman threat. However, the poorly maintained fortifications were insufficient to counter the invasion of Gozo in 1551, when most of the island’s population was deported and enslaved. Only after this debacle did the Knights build proper defenses.
There were several places to keep people locked up. The prison that can be visited is located right next to the Church and the Court House.
Living in a townhouse
Within the Citadel, you can get a feeling of the way of life of a wealthy family during the 18th century by visiting a restored house. The house was large enough to accomodate the patron’s family, their servant employees as well as storage and workshops.
City of Ir-Rabat (Victoria)
Ir-Rabat (Victoria) embraces the Citadel (fortified city), the surrounding old town (Rabat) as well as its modern additions. It has a busy center with all kinds of shops, big and small.

Again a beautiful report, I would like to be at your place!
In Greece and Italy there are good prepaid offers, but mostly without roaming. I got the following tip for Greece:
https://www.cosmote.gr/cs/cosmote/en/epiko_internet.html
As long as you are in their network with the card, you should also be able to recharge if the 200GB per month is not enough. Also the renewal for the next month should then go online.
Thank you very much for this very interesting link that will help us for Greece. Looking forward to seeing you there!
