No matter how much preparation you put in the planning of a journey, the weather remains a key factor that you cannot predict much in advance. We had great plans for the arrival of Romaine and Alex aboard Fabule. But when we looked at the updated weather forecast, it showed rainy days and an upcoming Sirocco blow (a hot, dust-laden wind from the Sahara). We therefore kept Fabule safe in a marina and took the train to explore Cefalu. Nevertheless, the morale aboard was good and we took advantage of every nice day we got.
Base camp Termini Imerese
Romaine and Alex arrived in Palermo airport , which is connected to Termini Imerese by train. We had serveral practical reasons to choose this town as our base. In addition to being close to a well deserved railway station, the marina had a boatyard that could service our engine and provided easy access to shops.
On the day of the Sirocco blow, we experienced up to 64 knots of wind in the marina. The wind was accelerated by the surrounding mountains (only the italian meteo site LAMMA predicted this correctly). In the afternoon, the sky got foggy due to the fine sand transported by the wind.
Charming Cefalu
This scenic town is located at the base of a mountain, where the Normans built a castle and fortifications. The first time we came, we anchored just next to the town.
The second time, we came back by train and climbed to the top of the rock where the castle is located.
It was a steep climb, but the points of view were worth the effort.
Furthermore, we had a great time strolling through the lovely town.

Nous avons vu de très beaux vilage, citadelles et points de vue en Sicile. Et j’avais des complices pour aller manger des crèmes glacées, notamment la délicieuse Nociolla.

La météo a été ingrate durant le séjour de Romaine mais nous avons profité au maximum. La belle saison démarre chez vous aussi, profitez bien!
