Built by Henry VIII to protect the entrance of river Fal, Pendennis castle was in service for many battles. It offers splendid views of the river and the channel.
While the Easter trail organised on the castle’s grounds attracted many children, we kept with the historical features and really enjoyed our visit. The fort (or keep) has cannons disposed in circles on 2 floors. The purpose was to fire at ships from different angles as they approached the river.
Over the years, new cannon models, tunnels and bunkers were added to the site and are witness of the more recent role played by this site during WW I and II. We spent a lovely afternoon walking around the peninsula and visiting the various buildings.
In the far, we could see the beaches that attract visitors to Falmouth as well. They were our next destination. However, you do not see us laying on the beach or taking a bath, as the temperature are not quite to our taste yet.
At the marina, a group of swans chose the protected waters to establish their home.
Happy Easter Monday to all of you! We made sure to be fully equipped to satisfy our taste for chocolate and cake. With a nice cup of tea.
