France Passage Notes UK

When the land ends for the third time (Camaret to Dublin)

After passing Cabo Finisterre (Spain) and Cap Finistère (France), we made it in time to pick-up Martine, our friend from Canada, in Falmouth (UK). Then we rounded Land’s End and continued our way north.

Fabule’s home (Tréguier)

From Camaret, we timed our passage through the Chenal Dufour to get favorable currents. It was very quiet and peaceful. It felt completely diffrent from our previous passages.

Arriving in Tréguier was like going home, where you know places and people. We took care of a few boat jobs and got help from TEEM to investigate the AIS/GPS loss issues. It was a treat to catch-up with our sailboat friends from Groucho, Planet Migo, Vagrant and Lady Avaley.

Because of the timing of the tide, we left Tréguier at dawn. Our reward was a beautiful sunrise on the river Jaudy.

By the middle of the day, we got ready to cross the shipping lanes of the English Channel. It has been 3 years since we first crossed this channel and we realised the progress we have made since then! We are so lucky to continue this journey.

Familiar and new (Falmouth, St Mawes)

As we arrived in Falmouth, we greeted our friend Martine from Canada aboard Fabule. She will spend the next 3 weeks with us and brought the sunshine.

During our first sailing year, we had already been to Falmouth and the river Fal. This time, we decided to visit St Mawes.

Opposite Falmouth, on the other side of river Fal, lies the beautiful village of St Mawes.

Merry month of May (Land’s End, Dale, Dublin)

We left Falmouth on a sunny day and made our way round Land’s End. There was not much favorable wind and we motor sailed most of the time.

Land’s End

We made a stop in a conveniently located anchorage in Dale, near Milford Haven.

Leaving Dale – Milford Haven

Just as we were wondering what the purpose was of the 4 yellow buoys marking a square (north of Milford Haven), this Airbus arrived and started to make manoeuvres.

An apero and a show!

Growing notherly winds were preventing us to continue our progression north, so we decided to visit Irland where we had never been before.

As a base for exploration, we went to the comfortable Dun Laoghaire marina (near Dublin).

Land’s end et l’Irlande sont parmi les plus chouettes endroits en Europe.
