It is time to get the boat out for sailing. On Thursday February 10th, we leave the marina of Tréguier for the test sail. We secured all our belongings inside the boat. The weather forecast is not too great: it is cold and raining. Everyone gears up accordingly.
We sailed out of the Jaudy river following the path marked by the buoys until we reached the English Channel. We tried out the various sails. Rain and waves made the trip a little uncomfortable but everything worked fine. The rain stopped and we went back to Tréguier in a peaceful trip. However, an unsettling discovery awaited us once arrived: the lazarette (storage compartment at the rear of the boat) contained water. Could it be linked to the water that we had already found underneath the engine?
First thing next morning, the Boréal team was on our boat to investigate. While we were eating breakfast, the leak was found, and repair organized for the day. After cleaning everything that was contaminated by the salt water, we were ready to leave Tréguier for our training with our instructor Brad Swain from Brittany Sailing the next day.
We left at low tide and while progressing on river Jaudy, a paddle boarder used our wake to speed up his journey. He followed us for 20 minutes at a speed of almost 6 knots. What a physical condition!
The travel between Tréguier and Saint Quay Portrieux was beautiful. It was a sunny day with nice wind.
Saint Quay Portrieux provided a good shelter during the upcoming bad weather with strong wind and rain.
We used the time before the rain to inflate the dinghy and figure out various outstanding installation projects. Yan also learned how to splice ropes.
Today ended with a well-deserved meal at a restaurant facing the port right up the pontoon. This is probably the shortest way we will ever have to walk to a restaurant.

Toujours un réel plaisir de vous lire et de voir les photos alors qu’il a encore fait -21°C ce matin ici à Montréal (-26°C avec le vent)!! Comme on le dit souvent: “Après la pluie, vient le beau temps …” et cela se vérifie aussi à Tréguier. Vraiment cool ce restaurant au bout du ponton … Hey Yan, je vois que tu n’es pas stationné en double file :-). Bonne semaine à vous deux.
Bonjour vous deux! Il y a toujours des trucs a figurer au depart n’est ce pas mais au moins c’est arrivé au debut et non en pleine mer! On continue a suivre vos aventures!
Trop cool de vous voir ainsi dans vos habits d’aventuriers! Là, c’est du sérieux! Heureuse de vous savoir en pleine forme et de vous voir dans votre nouveau décor, que nous découvrirons au fils d vos aventures! Capitaine Brand avait l’air un peu gelé 🥶 Faudra sortir ses culottes en polaire et pratiquer un peu avant d’affronter les froids du pôle nord! Wtf, de l’eau qui rentre. Est-ce normal Yan qu’il y ait des fuites lors des premières mises à l’essai? Je serais totalement sans connaissance. C’est pas comme, ya un défaut, on va aller l’échanger au Walmart demain matin. C’est quoi, une mauvaise soudure? De mauvais joints d’étanchéité? Explique-moi ça m’inquiète.
