We got the key

Our first night on the boat happened on a Saturday evening, after spending a recreational day with friends on Mont Saint-Michel. We drove back to our home which is now located on the water.

Since receiving the keys from the boat yard, we spent most of the time carrying all our belongings and equipment from the shore to the boat. Remember the 3 wooden boxes with more than 600 kg of stuff? Well, we had to carry their content on board using a little blue cart.

The timing of these travels had to be carefully planned because of the tide. During low tide, the pontoon to get to the boat is extremely steep making it too hard to handle the cart.

During the time in between the tides, we played Tetris inside the boat to find secure storage space for the precious cargo. We are so grateful to Sophie and Xavier, who came to visit us from L’Allier and helped us a lot with the process. In addition, they brought friendly company.

Not everything went smoothly. A little more than 12 hours after receiving the keys, Silvia dropped them in the water. A knight in shining armor (Yan) had to recover them (the tool provided by Boréal also helped). On the third day, we discovered about 50 liters of salt water underneath the engine. We figured out how to pump it out with the manual bilge pump. Now we need to investigate why this water got there in the first place. Fortunately, no additional water appears to ingress since that event.

There are so many pieces of equipment to understand and test that we are busy bees from morning to night. Let’s not forget to enjoy the nice view and simple pleasures of life.

Today, we got the connection to the internet. Hence, the possibility to publish this update. We have time until Wednesday to equip, organise and secure the boat. Next step: untie the mooring lines and go for a test sail. And thanks to Sophie, we now have a cute mascot to watch over us.

But the story of start of your journey wouldn’t be the same without dropping the keys in the water 🙂.

Wish you a few uneventful days to come, so you can gather your energy for many eventful adventures ahead. 💜
