This week, we took every weather window allowing us to make our way to the south of Portugal. As the nights get longer and darker, we loved watching the peaceful beauty of the stars during the two night passages necessary to reach Lagos. Meanwhile ashore, with December announcing the end of year festivities, cities are adorned lights and decorations.
On the move again (Leixões)
Once the port of Póvoa de Varzim was reopened, we said goodbye to our new friends from the Canadian boat L.S.O. and covered the short distance to Leixões. It felt good to be gallivanting again.
The sunset brought a nice touch to the rather industrial surroundings of the marina.
Christmas lights (Cascais)
The next leg took us to Cascais.
Cascais, a beach resort located close to Lisbon, is clearly getting ready for Christmas.
Lisbon
For our visit of Lisbon, we were granted one sunny day. We appreciated strolling along the Tage.
The impressive Praça do Comércio is also getting ready for Christmas.
Then, we climbed the hill to Saint George castle for the sunset.
The famous trams descend the steep streets of the old town without problems.
Sailing under the stars
Because the nights were long and the moon set early, we had a great view of the stars and the milky way. This is difficult to catch on camera, but there were other beautiful features on our journey to Lagos.
The sunset offered a beautiful lightshow.
Since about 2 years, there are regular reports of orcas “playing” with sailboats along the Atlantic coast. This can result in rocking the boat or biting off the rudder. We were therefore very relieved not to see any other wildlife than birds and dolphins. We arrived in Lagos (Algarve) in the morning.
Our journey south is ending. The main direction changes to east as we will progress along the Algarve and southern Spain toward the Mediterranean.

Je crois que c’est une magnifique région, d’après ce que j’ai entendu. Et bientôt la Méditerranée… Route plein Est. Ca va vous rappeler votre route de l’Ecosse vers la Norvège !… 🙂 Vous allez apprécier un peu de calme sur la méditerrannée sans doute ? Hâte de connaitre la suite et de voir vos prochaines photos. Les belles falaises de Lagos sont effectivement magnifiques. De plus, la marina est très bien protégée et l’eau est calme. On s’est tellement fait balloter ces deux derniers mois qu’on apprécie ce confort. Grosses bises!

Cela nous fait tellement plaisir que vous suiviez nos aventures. En décembre, il pleut quand même régulièrement en Algarve. On va donc attendre que le soleil brille à nouveau pour aller explorer les falaises. Grosses bises à vous deux.
