Gallivanting around the Finistère (Tréguier to Brest)

Fabule and crew were ready to resume the journey around the Finistère to Brest in a stimulating experience for all senses.

Bye bye Tréguier and Thank you

The time had come to leave Tréguier. The teams of Boréal / TEEM were a great help for this seasonal check-up of Fabule. We learned a lot from these professionals as well as from the other Boréal owners. Thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge with us!

Sunset on the Côte de granite rose (Port Blanc)

Our first stop was only a few nautical miles away from the Jaudy River. It gave us the opportunity to test that everything was working as expected. We anchored in the lovely bay of Port Blanc and settled for the evening show.

Delight for the eyes and the nose (Roscoff)

The next morning, we continued west along the northern coast of Brittany.

Once moored in Roscoff, we visited the Jardin botanique et tropical which benefits from the microclimate of this area. It is located on a cliff next to the Roscoff marina. It was a delight to wander through the paths of this garden.

In addition, the channel between Roscoff and l’Ile de Batz at low water was a good exercise for the captain. To sell their vegetables and especially onions, farmers used to cross the channel and tour south of England by bike. They are known as the Johnnies.

Tidal cruising

Currents are strong around the tip of Finistère and timing is key. We made a stop in the harbour of L’Aber Wrac’h to be closer to the starting point of the Basse du Four early next morning. As we were enjoying our apéro, we could see Chiara (Boréal 47.2) and Willow (Boréal 44.2) sail by on their way to the same passage that they would take 12 hours earlier, during the night. They were heading for La Rochelle, to welcome visitors during the Grand Pavois boat show.

The conditions were beautiful on this Saturday and many sailors were out in the area of Brest.

We will stay in Brest until we have a good weather window for the crossing of Bay of Biscay. Looking at the forecast for next week, the winds will be too strong for our taste.
